Cesarean Rates in the US

Did you know there are hospitals in the United States that perform more c-sections than vaginal births every year?

I recently came across a great website. Whether you are pregnant, know someone that is or are just curious about how the hospitals in your area rate in number of cesareans a year, this is a great website!

Did you know there are hospitals that have banned vaginal birth after cesareans (VBAC)? Did you know there are hospitals in the United States that perform more c-sections than vaginal births every year? The c-section rate in some hospitals are as high as 60+%.

We Should Know Better

There are plenty of statistics out there today that show a vaginal birth is better for both mom and baby in most cases. The only one that it is not better for is the doctor, who often chooses cesareans for his own comfort...shorter birth, planned schedule and much more gain financially. My doctor in Georgia has less than 5% c-section rate, last we spoke. With such a low c-section rate, I know I can trust him should the circumstances arise that I would need one. I know he has tried everything to help me have a safe vaginal delivery.

So check out your hospital and see where they rank. By the way, the year my first child was born the rate of cesareans nationwide was 22.3% and when Eden was born in 2010, a whopping 32.8%. These numbers are all up from the 10% rate when I was born.
