Courageous: The Movie Review Part 2
A Mom's Review
Yesterday I shared with you a little bit about why this movie is so important in the culture surrounding us. 24 million children live without fathers in the home and 60 percent of children haven't seen their father in the past 12 months. We are in need of a reformation in the church. We need the fathers to turn their hearts to their children and the children to the fathers!
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction. Malachi 4:5-6
Courageous Premier Screening at the Fox Theatre
Friday night, August 26th, Andrew and I were invited to the Fox Theatre to enjoy a Red Carpet Event and the screening of the new film by Sherwood Pictures and Provident and Affirm Films, Courageous: the Movie. We were both very excited to attend the screening and share the opportunity with our readers as we met the cast and crew of Courageous.
Friday was a very busy day. Andrew went to work and I did my regular grocery shopping, errands and prepared for a busy evening. Rachel and Jonathan babysat for us and even took care of dinner, allowing me to head out early to pick up Andrew from work, grab a bite to eat and arrive at the Fox Theatre on time to catch a few photo opportunities as the cast and crew walked the red carpet.
The Beginning of a Beautiful Evening
The evening started off uneventful as I drove to Andrew’s work. I did hit a little traffic, as there was a typical Friday afternoon accident on the freeway. Thankfully I had left with extra time to spare and arrived at Andrew’s work with plenty of time for dinner and the drive to the Theatre. Andrew and I grabbed a quick bite to eat, being that it was still early afternoon; neither of us was too terribly hungry. After dinner we got on the freeway to head south to the famous Fox Theatre in Atlanta. On the way we enjoyed chatting about life, family, our new church plant and what God is doing in our lives. We laughed and encouraged each other, as we chatted about how Satan is working hard to thwart what God is doing in our family.
We made great time, even with Friday traffic, to the Theatre. Two blocks from the Fox, we turned the corner and our vehicle died. We looked at each other with almost a look of “this is unexpected, but not a surprise. ” We had just been talking about Satan trying to thwart our plans. Andrew tried several times to get the vehicle to start, with no luck. He got out in downtown Atlanta city traffic and tried to see if he could figure it out. All the while trying to keep his white shirt clean! Oh, of course the vehicle won’t start so the air conditioning will not work and it is still 98 degrees outside, with both of us in long sleeves. We knew we had to make a decision quickly and missing the evening and all that God had planned for us was completely out of the question, for both of us!
Call For a Tow Truck
Andrew quickly called
a tow company in Atlanta. We both knew this would not be cheap, as we were many miles from home, but we also knew that God had a plan and this event did not take Him by surprise. The tow company said they would be there in 20 minutes. Andrew then walked to a local repair shop, which a passing bus driver recommended to us, but they did not deal with diesel vehicles, which ours vehicles are. So we continued to wait while he tried a few more things. By this time our batteries had drained, we have two big batteries which drained in the time it took to crank the vehicle three of four times. We have never had battery issues with this vehicle before…and haven’t since either.
About this time we decided to just sit and wait for a tow truck. We both sat in the vehicle, waiting for the tow company, marveling at the awesomeness of God’s all-knowing plan. We could have been stranded anywhere in Atlanta, but we were two blocks from the Theatre. We could have been stuck there, but were able to call a tow truck to tow the vehicle and also call our two sons to come pick us up at the end of the evening. We could have been tight on money, without the provision to pay for a tow truck for the evening, but the Lord provided again. The Lord had a plan for us, even though He allowed us to be tested in the process.

The Incredible Evening Continues
The tow truck arrived right on schedule. We had a very encouraging discussion with the two tow truck drivers about how God is sovereign and then Andrew and I walked two blocks to the Theatre and arrived right on time…not on our schedule or in our plans, but in His! We truly had no idea what God had in store for the evening, but we knew He had something special planned for us.
